The Robinson R22. There is so much to say about this simple, little machine. This is the brain child of Frank Robinson that lead to the worlds best selling, most successful helicopter of our day. With many adjustments and improvements from the original design that he built in his garage, the modern R22 is a highly versatile, extremely capable, 2 seat helicopter.
Whether capturing wild animals that can run 70mph and then turn on a dime or teaching a student their very first moments of flight, the R22 does it all, and does it all well. Many people who have little to no experience with the Robinson R22 have negative things to say about it. But for those who have many hours behind the controls of these incredible aircraft, we understand that when flown within their limits and controlled by an experienced pilot, they give some amazing results.
Small and light, these 2 seat aircraft offer an affordable, effective way to learning how to fly. They are also extremely difficult to pilot, meaning, if you can fly this, you can fly anything.
The R22 has 131 HP and can carry 2 pilots at approximately 200lbs a piece for about 2 hours. Although not much for the long trips, these aircraft are light, small and extremely maneuverable. Due to their semi rigid rotor system and light weight, the R22 is the preferred aircraft for some of the most challenging work in the industry.
If you have livestock that need to be herded, or wildlife to be captured, or maybe you just want to learn to fly and are on a limited budget. The R22 is the machine for you!
Rio Grande Helicopters currently has 1 R22 in its fleet.
